A few notes about the game

  • A stone or rock is just a big block of finely shaped granite, measuring 11 inches in diameter, and weighing between 42 and 44 pounds. (See Types of Granite for more details.)
  • Although there are many unique terms used on the ice, the basic are all that is needed:
    • The "weight" is the force that a stone carries while in motion. This force is the speed of a stone as it pertains to the current conditions of the ice.
    • The "line" is the path that the stone will follow along the ice.
    • The "swing" the approximate amount of deviation that a stone's line will take. (The distance between where the broom is held and where the stone is when it reaches it's target.)
    • The "delivery" is the complete motion that a player goes through to throw a stone.
